News: Sir Julius Vogel Awards 2009 Winners!

The Science Fiction and Fantasy Association of New Zealand is pleased to announce the winners of this year’s Sir Julius Vogel Awards.

Professional Awards Section

Best Novel - Adult

  • Winner : Dark Heart by Russell Kirkpatrick (HarperVoyager, HarperCollins, NZ)

Best Novel - Young Adult

  • Winner : Thornspell by Helen Lowe (Knopf, Random House Children’s Books, USA)


Best Dramatic Presentation - Short Form

  • Winner : Skankenstein – the music video (Krafthaus, Wellington, NZ)

Executive Producer - David Stubbs

Producer - Gina Ross

Director - Jeremy Mansford

Animators - Lucas Brooking, Sam Webber, Curtis Baigent, Rodney Selby, Eion McNaught

Best Novella/Novelette

This year's Sir Julius Vogel Awards were voted on at Conscription, the 2009 New Zealand National Science Fiction Convention, held at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, corner of Kirkbride and Ascot Roads, Mangere, Auckland, NZ over Queen’s Birthday Weekend. Results were announced to the Conscription attendees on the evening of Sunday 31st May 2009 after the convention banquet.


The Sir Julius Vogel Awards were awarded to professionals and fans for work that was undertaken, completed or released during the 2008 calendar year. To see FULL nomination details, please go here.
