“When Californian girl Susan Murphy is unexpectedly clobbered by a meteor full of outer space gunk, she mysteriously grows to 49-feet-11-inches tall and is instantly labeled a "monster" named Ginormica. The military jumps into action, and she is captured and held in a secret government compound. The world learns that the military has been quietly rounding up other monsters over the years.

Their confinement time is cut short however, when a mysterious alien robot lands on Earth and begins storming the country. As a last resort, under the guidance of General W.R. Monger (on a desperate order from The President), the motley crew of Monsters is called into action to combat the aliens and save the world from imminent destruction.”

This is the synopsis of the new Paramount/DreamWorks animated film ‘Monsters Vs Aliens’, whose Director Conrad Vernon (“Shrek 2”) will be fielding a Q&A session on Friday March 6th at Sydney Film School.

Written and directed by Rob Letterman and Conrad Vernon, ‘Monsters Vs Aliens’ is the first computer animated movie produced in real 3-D instead of converting the film into 3-D after it is finished. It features the voices of the Academy award winner Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, Hugh Laurie, Seth Rogen, Will Arnett, Rainn Wilson, Stephen Colbert, Kiefer Sutherland and Jimmy Kimmel and is rated PG for "Sci-fi Action, Some Crude Humor, and Mild Language."

Come and join us at 11am to hear and learn from one of the world’s best animated filmmakers, Conrad Vernon who made his feature film directorial debut in 2004 with the Oscar-nominated “Shrek 2,” which went on to become the highest grossing animated film of all time. Prior to that Vernon served as a storyboard artist and additional dialogue writer on “Shrek”.

He joined DreamWorks in 1996, and worked as a storyboard artist on PDI/DreamWorks’ first computer-animated feature film, “Antz,” as well as the traditionally animated comedy “The Road to El Dorado.”

Before becoming part of DreamWorks, Vernon served as a storyboard artist on the popular animated television comedy “The Simpsons.” His other animation work includes directing for “Itsy Bitsy Spider,” writer and storyboard artist on “The Ren & Stimpy Show,” and writing and storyboarding on Hanna-Barbera’s “2 Stupid Dogs” and Nickelodeon’s “Rocko’s Modern Life.” He began his film career in 1991 on “Cool World” as an animator, effects animator, gag writer, layout artist and character designer.

On March 6 he will share his knowledge with the SFS community giving us an opportunity to learn all about the newest computer-animated 3-D feature before it comes to the cinemas on April 2nd 2009.
