MIDNIGHT ECHO III

Echo for sale. Please call first.

Now, my fellow Horrorphiles, it is time to send your crafted echoes out into the dark of post midnight.

Midnight Echo Number Three is open for business and receptive to unique reverberations.

Writers: To make a noise you must send works of dark fantasy up to 5000 words. That imposed number, however, should be considered a flexible margin. If a work runs to twice that, and you are confident of its worth, then give me a look. Sorry, definitely nothing past 10,000 words this time.

Whilst the type of story is almost completely open on this one, if anyone wants to work to a theme try an auditory one; sound, echoes, resonances. Be they literal, metaphoric, or both. But, remember, I am open to all types of tale. Except...

No funnies, please. The only humour allowed this time is the black stuff that can sometimes be distilled from seriously dark works. Things tittered out nervously in lieu of a scream or a crazed laugh. The macabre slapstick that sometimes occurs when battling shadows for one's life and sanity.

Stylistically you can send me Gothic, old school, cutting edge, atmospheric, mood or experimental pieces, I am a devotee of all of these. If in doubt, send it anyway.

Poets: Genre poetry is, paticularly in Australia, a neglected facet of writing. This is a situation which I am planning to change. Therefore, though places are limited in M.E. 3, I am asking poets to submit dark works of any theme, or merely atmospheric, with a top limit of 60 lines, up to 3 pieces per poet.

All prose and poetry submissions will be stripped of the creator's name before they get to me.

The only real criteria on this issue will be fine writing, a good story well told.

I encourage unpublished writers, or those with minimal publication credits, to submit. New Blood must be spilt.

Artists: who can do detailed work in black and white are urged to submit samples. For these and those wishing to submit potential cover art please see the details on the AHWA web site. When considering ideas for the cover of issue # 3 contemplate this title: 'Book of Echoes' and conjure accordingly.

Please send all story and poetry subs to midnightecho@australianhorror.com

I think that we can make a wonderful Echo together.

So, I'm a sounding board and a proving post to your talents. Hit me.

C'mon, sear my soul.

I'd say bummer that this didn't quite make it into the ANWA News Digest I just sent out - but it's actually a plus, because it gets a double plug about the traps this way.

Hi,

If you've a work currently under consideration for ME II, can you submit for III right now? Or, do you need to wait to hear back on your current sub?

Ta,

JC

Jason,

I don't see any problem with submitting to M.E. 3 in that regard.

Just to be on the safe, courtesy would probably warrent that you check with Angela and Shane, the editors of # 2.

Thanks for your interest.
